The Club Champs 2015

The club champs took place on Sunday 13th September 2015. It was rather a dull day with a mixture of light rain & drizzle with no glimpses of sunshine. It turned out to be a Recurve only final as there was only 1 compound. A Windsor round was shot.

Results were :-

Ladies Recurve,

First -  Claire Smith 784, Second - Claire Hobbs 595 Third - Gail Barrell 565.

Gents Recurve :-

First ā€“ David Farley 891, Second ā€“ Pat Dwyer 842, Third ā€“ Martin Klinkert 825.

Braygas

Our second indoor shoot ran very smoothly due to Adele & Pete's excellent organisation.
I think we can say it was a resounding success with at least seven county records shot.

Nick Rowe shot his socks off with a PB & new county recurve Bray 2 record.
Claire Hobbs really found her form to take the ladies recurve Bray 2 county record.
Pete Mann shot an excellent Bray 2 of 275 to take the gents compound county record.
Jason Meehan shot a very worthy barebow Bray 2 of 267 to take the county record.
Michaela Lake who skipped the first round to take the Bray 1 ladies barebow record with 225
Chris Cooper took the county  junior recurve Bray 2 with a score of 264
Chris Ellis with his stick shot a new county longbow record Bray 2 with a score of 237.

If it wasn't for Archery GB's very archaic rules in which only the first round you shoot counts despite shooting different target faces at different distances, ( I had to have another moan)
Nick Rowe would also have had the Bray 1 record with a score of 267
Claire Hobbs would also have had the Bray 1 with a score of 235
Pete Mann would have taken the Bray 1 with 276
Jason Meehan would have had the Bray 1 with 263 & the Vegas with 519
Chris Ellis would have taken both Bray 1 with 212 & Vegas with 434

Everyone I spoke to had a good day. A big thank you Adele

The High Wealds First Open Tournament 24/8/14

Our first attempt at an open tournament went without a hitch due to Adele's excellent organisation.
The weather was brilliant with sunshine & no wind at all, it was the perfect day for record breaking & 3 County Records were in fact broken. Marilyn Dewar from Eastbourne took the ladies longbow Long Western, Shaun Burgess from Bayeux took the compound Long Western & Chris Ellis took the gents longbow Long Western, all in all a good day. I think most archers went home happy & a lot earlier than expected. Thanks to all club members that attended & helped.

Club Member takes second place at the British Target Champs

Chris Ellis took second place at the British Target Championships in the Longbow section, which was a Double FITA  held at Lilleshall on the 9/10 August 2014

Claire Hobbs won the Ladies recurve Windsor with Claire Smith coming a close second.
Geoff Chenery won the longbow Albion with Cliff Wedge coming second.
John Wakefield came third in the St George shooting recurve &
Chris Ellis won the mens longbow St George with a new county record score.

Kent Longbow Championship - Double National (May 2011)

The High Weald contingent of Chris Ellis, Geoff Chenery, Russel Jones, Andy Jancewicz & Neil Wilson performed with style and calm prescence of mind in the tempestuous conditions. Even some of Wilson's arrows hit the target, so strong were the gusts. THWAC won the team competition, Mr Ellis tooks the visitors' gold with 919 and Russell the silver with 622.

Newhaven Archers Annual Western (May 2011)

Pete picks up goldAnother fine result for High Weald. Pete Moore won the junior compound with an impressive 799 and Chris Ellis took the longbow gold with 582. It was the usual well-organised and highly enjoyable tournament and we look forward to next year's opportunity to take away some more of their medals. Full results on the Newhaven Archery Club's website.

Southern Counties Championship News

Archery_Trophy.JPGChris Ellis took the county open records for the longbow Portsmouth (508), the double Portsmouth (1005) and the FITA 18 (455) at the Southern Counties Championship on March 6th at the K2 Crawley. To celebrate this major acheivement he bought some new plates, which you can see behind the most excellent trophies in the picture on the right.

Adele McPeake won second place in the Ladies Recurve with 567.

Full results

Guildford FITA 25 - Jan 16th

Peter Moore took second place in the Jnr Compound with 544, missing the top position by just one point and caning his father Mike.

Chris Ellis won the longbow but missed the county record by a hair's breadth. Early on in the round he recovered well from a split arrow (longbow archers rarely have more than three straight sticks in their box at any one time so this was serious) but was later distracted at the vital moment by the laughter coming from around NW's target as it became apparent that Wilson had actually shot one of his arrows into the target next door. The excuse for this deviation was that the arrow was shot without a point. It certainly was a pointless shot and earned Wilson the Idiot of the Day award.

The recently associated Adele McPeake stormed the ladies double and came close to winning overall.

Verdict: great day, good results but next time I am taking my ice skates instead
